To truly create culturally inclusive and welcoming IEPs, the process must begin in classrooms and extend throughout school campuses. This session will explore how fostering an environment where students see themselves represented and honored in the curriculum, classroom practices, and school culture is foundational to developing IEPs that genuinely engage and invite participation from parents.

Additionally, the session will delve into potential cultural factors that may impact eligibility determinations and create barriers for parents to effectively communicate and advocate for their child. Attendees will gain insights into strategies for integrating cultural representation into everyday educational experiences and understanding how these factors can influence the IEP process.

By the end of the session, participants will understand how cultural inclusivity in the classroom and awareness of cultural dynamics can lead to more effective and meaningful IEP meetings, resulting in better outcomes for students and stronger partnerships with families.
